Good point - and not at all. I've perhaps over-emphasised plastic. As one item that doesn't break down in landfill, it's one thing that doesn't release methane. So in that sense, it's contributing less to global warming, but it's just a great example of our appetite for excessive consumerism and cheap tat.

Stopping plastic production wouldn't stop the problem. Other forms of plastic, like starch based materials probably are better, but don't last as long... which may or may not be a good thing, depending on what they're used to make.

You're so right. It's virtually impossible to live our modern life without a lot of these things. That's why such drastic change is needed. Starting with eliminating pointless tat would only be a start. And it ain't gonna happen anyway.

I totally agree that small changes are important and that individual behaviour has an impact. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts.
