Fair enough. Yes, I've been clear about my motives recently. I didn't say anything until I was turned down.
I'd explained why. I opened one years ago and became aware of a lot of legal issues around photo licencing. It was hard to get people to comply with the publication rules and it was potentially going to leave me with a law suit.
We're not insured and I've had to pay out £1000 fine for breach of photo licencing in a workplace before, so I know the risk is real.
I think it's fair to let people know if the situation has changed. I was literally wrestling with whether to change the focus and reapply. I am grateful that people told me the truth.
Reapply is what Ariel was telling me to do, right up until the week before she left. So it's right that people should be told the situation has changed.
People didn't open publications just because they wanted to be publication editors. There was a surge of niche publications from people who wanted to join the nomination program.
I don't feel it's wrong to tell people like myself, who were planning to reapply, that the door is closed.
I don't think I've ever criticised Ariel. I don't know her enough.
