Definitely the best approach. I just discovered one person who corrected me years ago on Twitter was actually wrong. I've been avoiding using a common phrase for years because their version seemed weird to me. But allegedly, my version was wrong. Now I realise it wasn't! Stupid people.

It was only seeing someone else use MY version on medium, I thought, it's not just me. And checked again.
