Brilliantly explained. I was brought up as a Baptist and continue to have connections with the church, and I'd never come across Rapture theory until relatively recently, through US films, and the odd article on Medium. I found it odd. It certainly isn't anything I've heard in any British church, and I've been to a lot of churches covering a lot of denominations. This, to me, strikes me as an American quirk, but it's odd that the guy who penned the idea came from the UK.

As for Thessalonians referring to people rising when Jesus returns, that's not the same thing as the rapture I've seen on films. The second coming is preached in the UK, but only with an massive element of unknown. It would lead to the day of judgement, but I'm not convinced the image of people being 'taken' in films is what we'd expected to believe over here!

Thanks for the explanation. I had wondered where it came from, because I've read a lot of bible verses my life, and not one of them referred to The Rapture.
