At one time I used it a lot to get ideas for magazine articles and try to promote my books among the writing community. It paid off a bit in that it helped my novel get started and some people who suggested ideas for spiritual magazines gave me ideas that I later sold. I also found interviewees on Twitter and got the occasional writing job on there, so sometimes, yes.
