At my lowest ebb in my late teens and early 20s, the only upside to my miserable life was that I was better off than starving people in Africa. I've been ripped to shreds for telling that story before, but honestly, when the country you live in is that depressing, taking a wider perspective might help. But saying that, I did feel angry years later that I was reduced to that position - because I wasn't living in Africa, and frankly, life shouldn't have been so bad that the only upside was that people who are starving have things worse. So, um, it's not ideal.
