Ahh, yes, but I do recall that back in the days when I could actually find the Medium rules, we were supposed to be linking to facts to prove everything. It's been liberating to find that there's more flexibility here... mainly because when I was republishing some old print articles, trying to find the links to the research papers online was proving to be something of a headache... although I still try to link up when I'm quoting studies.
